Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki last week warned opposition leader Raila Odinga over his planned mass actions scheduled on March 20.

In a press briefing at Harambee House on Monday, February 6, the CS announced that he has deployed over 9,000 officers with immediate effect to various parts of the country to deal with Raila’s supporters protesting.

“I direct all security agencies to ensure that our security facilities remain protected areas and should not be allowed to become a theatre for politics or rowdy and unlawful behavior including unauthorized access,” the soft-spoken CS said.

But on Sunday, March 12, the veteran politician claimed that Kindiki was after using the men in uniform to disrupt his much-hyped mass action.

Speaking in Likoni, Mombasa County, Raila alleged that he was being threatened by Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki.

“Kindiki you will know who I am, the CS is threatening me,” Raila alleged.

Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential running mate Martha Karua further warned Kindiki against deploying the police to disrupt the planned mass action.

“If police injure anyone during the mass action, you are the one who will pay,” Karua warned the Interior CS.

The Azimio la Umoja la Umoja last week announced the official start of nationwide protests.

Raila made the directive after the 14-day ultimatum Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader issued to the President lapsed.

Among Raila’s demands was for President Ruto to expedite the opening of the 2022 presidential election servers and address the high cost of living.

Speaking at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, the ODM leader reminded the Kenya Kwanza government that the 14-day ultimatum lapsed.

“We now declare the beginning of mass action, and announce that Ruto must go,

“On March 20, 2023, we have a date with destiny, and we call on you all to come to Nairobi where we will conduct a major procession,” Raila declared.
