Igembe South MP Paul Mwirigi has threatened to return a car gift donated to him by President Uhuru Kenyatta after the 2017 elections.

Igembe South MP Paul Mwirigi has threatened to return a car gift donated to him by President Uhuru Kenyatta after the 2017 elections.

In a long Facebook post on Sunday, April 10, Mwirigi said he will not be intimidated by President Uhuru’s allies on the pretext that the Head of State bought him a car.

In his post, the youthful lawmaker thanks the president for gifting him the car without any set of conditions.

“First and foremost, let me thank His Excellency the President for gifting me a car in the year 2017 wholeheartedly without expecting anything in return,” Mwirigi wrote.

The young legislature regrated that his allegiance to Deputy President William Ruto has been constituted to be a form of disrespect to the president.

“Now, recently several leaders have been castigating me claiming that by supporting DP Ruto, I am disrespecting the president. I have never insulted or disrespected the president in any way and I am not planning to do so at any time. But note, my allegiance to DP William Ruto will not change at all,” He stated.

Mwirigi accused Agriculture CS Peter Munya of using the gift from the president to blackmail him to change his stance on the coming presidential election.

The youthful lawmaker revealed that if the blackmail will continue then he will be left with no option but to return the car to President Uhuru.

“I may, for the sake of my peace of mind and independence consider returning the gift. I will not bear the blackmail by the CS anymore.” Mwirigi stated.

The statement by the Igembe South lawmaker comes after a public spat with CS Munya, where the CS accused Mwirigi of being disrespectful to President Uhuru by shifting allegiance to DP Ruto.

In the 2017 General Election, Mwirigi who was 23 years old, traversed his constituency on foot during the campaign.

After winning, the MP traveled by matatu from Meru to Nairobi for the induction as a member of the National Assembly.

On learning of his situation, President Uhuru handed him a brand-new vehicle in what the president said was to enable the youthful lawmaker to serve his constituent better.
