Kalonzo’s Wiper party vows not to support Raila Odinga presidency

Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua has said that Kalonzo’s Wiper party will not support Raila Odinga for the presidency in 2022.

According to the Senator, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has given enough support in previous governments, and will not play second fiddle anymore.

“His name will be on the ballot as a presidential candidate, and not running mate to anyone, least of all Raila Odinga,” he said.

The member of Kalonzo’s Wiper party wet ahead to list the number of times Kalonzo has sacrificed his ambitions for other politicians to serve.

“Kalonzo has supported Raila twice, he has supported president Kibaki to stabilize his government,

“He was a loyal and faithful servant of President Moi, where he served several ministries. It’s now time that Kalonzo runs for the presidency, and Wiper is very clear about that,” Enoch Wambua added.

The MP dismissed reports that President Uhuru Kenyatta had settled on Raila Odinga as the suitable Presidential candidate in 2022 General Election.

His statement comes amid an ongoing retreat between One Kenya Alliance Principals Kalonzo Musyoka(Wiper) Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) Gideon Moi(KANU) and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula.

The 4 co-principals have converged in Naivasha to hold discussions on the identification of a flag bearer.

Among the four parties, Gideon Moi’s KANU has warmed up to the suggestion of supporting Raila Odinga for the presidency.

Speaking to the Standard Newspaper, KANU Secretary General Nick Salat accused the other three of playing hardball in as far as accepting Riala as flag bearer is concerned.

“Everybody is insisting on their preferred candidate but that is not the way to run things. It is important for people to sit down and talk. It is about what formula will hand us a win not the question of who has what numbers,” said Nick Salat.

Their retreat comes a week after they held discussions with President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

From the closed-door talks, it emerged that the Head of State asked the 5 Raila and the OKA leaders to make a decision on the way forward.
