Lukoye who is a reputed doctor of psychiatry with experience spanning over two decades will serve in that capacity for a period of three years.

Atwoli’s eldest son holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Moi University.

Lukoye had until his appointment been serving as the dean at Agha Khan University Medical College, East Africa.

He also co-chairs the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Board on Global Health.

His appointment comes just months after the medical practitioner was elected as an international member of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) headquartered in Washington DC, United States.

It further comes just months after the vocal trade unionist and the Head of State mended their fences following a heated exchange of words in the run-up to the 2022 General Election.

During the campaign period, Atwoli drummed up support for William Ruto’s bitter rival Raila Odinga who was running on Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.

However, after being declared the fifth president-elect, Atwoli hurriedly dumped Raila for President William Ruto and the two vowed to work together.
