Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma asked to clear 0.6 million school fee arrears for his child

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has been ordered to pay KSh 665,500 in school fees arrears for a child he allegedly sired with his estranged lover in 2007.

This was after the ODM legislator failed to honor the children’s court in Milimani requesting him to pay KSh 56,000 for his daughter as directed by the court three months ago.

As such, Milimani Principal Magistrate Elizabeth Muiru ordered the MP to settle the arrears in two installments with effect from August 30, 2023.

“Upon the judgment being set aside, the court thereafter granted orders on various occasions for the defendant to provide school fees for the minor.

“It is thus my considered view that the judgment of June 12, 2008, having been set aside the orders of monthly maintenance is no longer in force. However, there are subsequent orders that ordered the defendant to provide school fees,” the magistrate said.

She further said that if the legislator fails to pay the amount, his salary would be attached.

In April 2023, a group of women’s rights defenders on held a peaceful protest outside Milimani Law Courts demanding that the Homa Bay Town MP Peter “pay school fees” for a high school child.

Led by Ruth Mumbi Co-founder and Convenor of Women Collective Kenya, the activists said that the MP should settle the school fees arrears for his daughter as ordered by a Nairobi Children’s Court.

“Hon. Kaluma has been fronting himself as the champion for the family and yet he has repeatedly refused to pay school fees for his daughter, to the point that the mother must come to court for something like this. This is unacceptable for an MP who wants to get political mileage in the name of being a family man. He is an embarrassment to all Kenyan men,” she said.
