DP Gachagua: I will work for UDA as President Ruto works for Kenyans

by Enock Ndayala
It has now emerged that a division is brewing within the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, February 19, said that government positions are a preserve of those who voted for Kenya Kwanza in the 2022 elections.

Gachagua likened the Kenya Kwanza government to a company of shares where each member earns dividends according to how many shares he invested.

“This government is a company that has shares. There are owners who have the majority of shares, and those with just a few, while others do not have any. You invested in this government and you must reap. You sowed, tilled, put manure, and irrigated, and now it is time to reap,” Gachagua said.

His comments elicited criticism from both the opposition and the government side calling out the second in command and terming his remarks as ‘discriminatory’.

However, on Wednesday, February 22, the immediate former Mathira MP changed his tune on the government’s service delivery following massive criticism.

Speaking during the launch of the Nairobi River Commission in Korogocho, Nairobi County, the second in command made it clear that President Wiliam Ruto will serve all Kenyans equally.

Rigathi stipulated that he would be busy coordinating the affairs of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party as the Head of State serves Kenyans.

“Kenya is for all of us regardless of whether you voted for him or not. He will work for all Kenyans,

“He is the leader of the country, therefore he should work for everyone, while I am the leader of the UDA party, I will continue working for the UDA people,” Gachagua said.

The deputy president further stated that development will be done in all parts of the country since Kenyans deserved it through their taxes.

Additionally, Gachagua says Ruto will only give state appointments to those who believe in his Bottom-Up economic model.

“The president will also decide on who he appoints as his aide. He will only pick those who believe in the Bottom-Up economic transformation agenda because they are the ones who understand his agenda,” he added.
