Police are investigating the mysterious death of Ivana Trump, the first wife of immediate former United States (US) President Donald Trump.
The mother of three was found unconscious at the bottom of the staircase at her home in New York.
Some sources believe that Ivana suffered cardiac arrest while other reports claim that the 73-year-old may have fallen though the New York City’s Medical Examiner’s Office is set to determine the official cause of her death.
The 45th president of the World’s most powerful nation, Donald Trump announced the death, through his Truth Social Media platform, saying the 73-year-old mother of his three children, Donald Jr., Eric, and Ivanka, died on Thursday, July 14.
“I am very saddened to inform all of those that loved her, of which there are many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York City,” he wrote.
The Trump family lauded her in a statement as “a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and a caring mother and friend”.
“Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country,” the statement added. “She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination.”
Donald and Ivana Trump were notable public figures in New York in the 1980s and 1990s, and their split was the subject of intense public interest.
Eldest child Ivanka, who was said to be very close to her mother, said in an Instagram post that she was “heartbroken”.
“Mom was brilliant, charming, passionate, and wickedly funny. She modeled strength, tenacity, and determination in her every action. She lived life to the fullest – never forgoing an opportunity to laugh and dance,” she wrote.
Trump was Ivana’s second husband. Her first, Alfred Winklmayr, was an Austrian ski instructor and friend who she reportedly married in order to obtain Austrian citizenship.
