Kiambu Women Representative Gathoni Wa Muchoaba, who was a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined DP William Ruto’s camp.
On Wednesday, June 23, Wa Muchomba visited DP William Ruto at his Karen residence where they held talks and she was welcomed into the Hustler nation.
This came as a surprise to many as the Kiambu Woman representative was not only an ardent supporter of Uhuru but also a crusader of the Building Bridges Initiative.
The last time Wa Muchomba acted on behalf of President Uhuru and Jubilee party was during the Juja by-elections where the party’s candidate was badly floored by Moses Kuria’s candidate.
When IEBC was tallying the May 18 votes at JKUAT tallying centre, Wa Muchomba together with Kiambu Governor James Nyoro were in charge of guarding the Jubilee Party votes.
In the tallying Centre, Wa Muchomba got into a heated disagreement with Tanga Tanga representatives led by Gatundu MP Moses Kuria.
The disagreement resulted into violence as the Jubilee team and the People’s Empowerment Party (PEP) clashed amid the vote tallying.
Even though the election was marred with violence, PEP’s Geoffrey Koimburi emerged the winner.
After this, a letter of Gathoni Wa Muchomba announcing a break from politics went viral. Shhe went ahead to advocate for a changes in the Jubilee Party leadership.
“Is interviewing a democratic route? To me and the majority of us, it is not. Party officials are not on the ground. We are on the ground with the people and members should be let to pick their leaders freely,” Wa Muchomba said.
Her exit from Jubilee Party comes at a time when the party is deemed to be collapsing. The development has sounded an alarm in President Uhuru’s Kieleweke faction.
“As things stand I will not be surprised if we lose another one or two more valuable players. We have some heavy lifting ahead to fix our party and not everyone will want to do it,” Nyeri town MP Ngujiri Wambugu noted after the news of Wa Muchomba’s exit.
