President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga on Sunday, April 2, relaxed their hard stances and decided to hold talks.

Raila, who had vowed to protest twice a week, announced that he had temporarily called off the anti-government protest.

Raila has been protesting over the high cost of living, the constitution of the IEBC team as well as the opening of the 2022 presidential servers to ascertain who won the presidency.

The calling off of the strikes happened just an hour after the President in a State of the Nation address asked Raila to suspend the protests and address the issues he had raised through the parliament.

This was after the two reportedly met at a private meeting outside Nairobi where less than five close allies of each party were present during the negotiations.

It was believed that the two reached an agreement to address Raila’s issues after calls by United States Senator Chriss Coon and religious leaders intervened.

However, new details have emerged on what transpired over the weekend that saw Raila and Ruto lessen their hard decisions.

According to one of the local dailies, President William Ruto threatened the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga with International Criminal Court (ICC), something that saw him ceases the weekly protests.

The daily reported on Tuesday, April 4, reported that during the meeting between Raila and Ruto, Azimio was confronted with an already drafted petition calling for the ICC intervention.

Already the president had directed National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichungwah and his Senate counterpart Aaron Cheruiyot to move with speed and address the demands raised by Raila Odinga.
