Raila says he is not afraid of criticizing President William Ruto

Kenya’s President William Ruto has fired salvos at those critiquing his new tax measures.

The political rivalry between opposition leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto is far from over.

For instance, the former Prime Minister vowed to push back hard against genetically modified (GMO) food imports into the country, opening a new political battlefront with President William Ruto’s government.

Odinga, who lost the August 9 presidential election to President Ruto by a narrow margin, has been pushing President Ruto’s new regime to lower the cost of basic commodities as promised in the run-up to the August 9, General Election.

As such, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, October 30, told Raila to leave the government alone and give the new regime an amble time to fulfill the promises made to Kenyans.

But speaking on Monday, October 31, during the burial of Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa’s mother, the ODM leader said he will not be intimidated to keep President Ruto’s government on the toss.

He further said that he will not be intimidated adding that his opponents are not even his age mates.

“There is nothing I am afraid of. I will never engage our opponents because they are not my age mates,” Raila said.

After returning to the country quietly from his long-week tour in Dubai, Raila threatened to instruct his supporters to stop paying taxes if his strongholds and other parts of the country will not experience development.

Raila said the opposition will not go to bed with the new regime for it to get development projects from President William Ruto’s regime.

“The national government has the responsibility to carry out certain development projects in all these areas otherwise, we shall tell our people to stop paying taxes. Therefore, we don’t have to go to beg the national government for us to get any development,” Raila said.
