Musalia Mudavadi to skip Raila Odinga’s declaration

by Enock Ndayala

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has said he will not attend ODM leader Raila Odinga’s declaration code-named Azimio la Umoja.

The opposition chief is on Friday, December 10, expected to declare whether or not he will be giving a fifth stab at the presidency in the 2022 General Election.

In a meeting with over 200 Jubilee party delegates from Nairobi at Convent Hotel on Monday, December 6, the former Prime Minister said his declaration will have delegates drawn from across the country including the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals.

But taking to his social media pages on Thursday, December 9, OKA principal Musalia Mudavadi said he will not attend Raila Odinga’s declaration due to personal engagements.

“I have just received an official invitation to Azimio la Umoja Convention. As noted herein, the invitation was addressed in my personal capacity as ANC Party Leader and not OKA Principal. Regrettably, I will not be able to attend because of personal engagements,” Mudavadi said in a Tweet.

The former Vice president said Raila is his competitor adding that he just but wish him all the best on his big day.

“Raila Odinga is a worthy competitor, I wish him well because tomorrow will clearly be his day in the sun,” he added.

While Mudavadi cited personal engagements, it is clear many of his advisors have been against him showing any form of support towards Raila Odinga.

For instance, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has been vocal castigating Raila Odinga, insisting that Musalia Mudavadi should only work with Raila if he accepts to be number two.

On Monday, Raila said more than 60,000 delegates from across the continent are expected to attend the Azimio la Umoja where he will give Kenyans an answer they have been yearning for.

“I have asked Kenyans if I should proceed and they have been asserting. I will now talk on Friday and I want all Kenyans to converge at Kasarani and make it full to capacity for the big declaration,” Odinga said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta who is in Dar es Salaam for a celebration to mark the 60th anniversary of Mainland Tanzania’s independence was also expected to attend but reports have it that he will be represented by more than 7,000 Jubilee delegates.
