15 selected counties in Kenya will witness tough 2022 political campaigns between Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

These are ones that were identified as vote-rich counties in the 2017 General Election.

An analysis of the 2013 and 2017 General Elections shows that the 15 counties are the political hotbeds since they determined the difference between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga’s votes in the past polls.

In the 2013 polls the margin between Uhuru and Raila was 800,000 votes, while in 2017 it widened to 1.5 Million votes.

Here are the counties that will witness a tough 2022 political campaign since they recorded the widest margin between Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta in the past.

  • Nyandarua County
  • Nyeri County
  • Kirinyaga County
  • Murang’a County
  • Marsabit County
  • Kisii County
  • Nyamira County
  • Kiambu County
  • Nakuru County
  • Meru County
  • Tharaka Nithi County
  • Embu County
  • Turkana County
  • Uasi Gishu County and
  • Laikipia County

For this reason, William Ruto and Raila Odinga have already intensified their campaigns in these counties.

This week, William Ruto has camping in the Ukambani area for his 2022 political campaigns, while Raila Odinga is at the Nyanza region.

In his campaigns, Ruto has intensified attacks against Raila Odinga, calling him a state Project.

He has further dared his opponents to face him one by one, without having to form a coalition or wait for President Uhuru’s endorsement.

“My competitors must wake up to the reality that I am their competitor, President Uhuru Kenyatta is not. They should stop wasting Uhuru’s time,

“They should organise themselves. Have their candidate if they can agree, have a party like our United Democratic Alliance. Have a plan like our bottom-up and they should stop criticising our 2022 campaign promises,” said the DP.
