David Ndii: Martha Karua desperately wanted to be Ruto’s running-mate

by Amos Khaemba

Economist David Ndii has sensationally claimed that Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua was initially angling to be picked as running mate to Deputy President William Ruto.

On Monday, May 16, the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga named Karua as his running mate ahead of the August polls.

But taking to Twitter on Tuesday, May 17, Ndii who is among economic advisors to DP Ruto revealed that, together with Karua, they met the second in command on several occasions.

According to the economist, Karua and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana eagerly wanted to name running make to DP Ruto.

Ndii revealed that the meetings took place when Karua was part of the Katiba Institute that was opposing the BBI constitution amendment initiative fronted by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner Raila Odinga.

“Dear cows and sheep. Before you start fighting each other for politicians here is something you should know. Not too long ago I was sitting with Martha and Kivutha in William Ruto’s Karen residence strategizing to defeat BBI. Both were eager contenders for his running mate” Ndii said on Twitter.

The Narc-Kenya leader was among the lawyers whose spirited efforts saw BBI declared unconstitutional, denting hopes of Kenyatta and his handshake brother Odinga to amend the country’s supreme law.

During the BBI debates, it was rumored that DP Ruto was the one funding the litigation process of those opposed to the initiative.

But while nominating Karua, as his running mate, the ODM leader further said that she will be in charge of the ministry of justice and that she will spearhead the constitutional amendment as envisioned in BBI.

“Because I am a man of my word, I will task her with the assignment of completing what we started and I am persuaded that she has the right pair of hands to accomplish this task,” Raila stated.
