BBI judgement: Ruto asks President Uhuru, Raila to apologize to Kenyans

DP Ruto has challenged Uhuru and Raila to apologize to Kenyans following the Supreme Court decision that term the BBI Bill unconstitutional.

Deputy President William Ruto has challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta and the ODM leader Raila Odinga to apologize to Kenyans following the Supreme Court decision that term the BBI Bill unconstitutional.

Speaking in Lamu on Thursday, March 31, the second in command applauded the judgment saying it has proved what he has always said ‘BBI was a fraud’.

He called on President Uhuru and his handshake partner to apologize for spending a lot of time and resources promoting an illegal process at the expense of serving Kenyans.

“We want to tell our Handskake brothers and the BBI fraud they feasted on the people of Kenya, now that it is confirmed by the Supreme Court that the BBI and all the Shenanigans around it, were matters unconstitutional, illegal, null and void, the Handshake brothers need to make an apology to the people of Kenya.” DP Ruto stated.

The Kenya Kwanza supremo, further maintained that the process of popularizing the BBI led to the collapse of the Jubilee government agenda in its second term.

“They have wasted four years of our time, they have sabotaged the Big 4 plans that were going to give jobs to our people in favor of fraudulent exercise meant to satisfy the selfish interests of a few people, we want to tell them the least we expect from the promoters of the BBI nonsense is for them to own up and apologize to the people of Kenya,” Ruto said.

In the Supreme Court judgment delivered today, President Uhuru was faulted for initiating the constitutional amendments against the provisions of the law.

According to the judges of the apex court, the president is not allowed to initiate a popular initiative law review.

“The popular initiative can only be carried by the people – ordinary citizens…The president as a matter of fact commenced and spearheaded the process and only passed on the baton to the two secretariats when it was too late. The president cannot act as an ordinary citizen because he is not. The entire process was irredeemably flawed,” Justice Ouko said in his ruling on President Uhuru’s involvement.
