Mutahi Ngunyi: Uhuru had a long plan to finish Raila politically

by Enock Ndayala

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has alleged that president Uhuru Kenyatta could have, all along, planned to finish Raila Odinga politically.

In a statement, the analyst opined that the outgoing Head of State did not do enough to help his handshake partner win the presidency.

“Maybe Raila was a decoy and Uhuru’s plan all along was to hand over to Ruto. I say so because Uhuru acted sub-optimally in this election. He handed over his constituency to Ruto without a fight. Then he disabled the deep state. Was this the Kumi-Kumi” plan?” Ngunyi said in a Tweet.

Mutahi’s sentiments came shortly after the Supreme Court dismissed Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party captain Raila Odinga’s presidential petition seeking to invalidate the election of William Ruto as the fifth president.

Raila and six others had last week moved to the Supreme Court of Kenya to challenge the declaration of Ruto as President by the IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati.

In his petition, Raila had alleged that the August 9, presidential election was marred with irregularities and that William Ruto did not achieve the 50 percent plus one vote threshold required by the law to be declared the winner.

However, the seven judges of the apex court dismissed Raila’s claims that the vote was marred by rigging and irregularities.

The court further found no discrepancies in the vote tallies and no credible evidence that the electoral commission’s computer systems and transmission network had been breached.

Chief Justice Martha Koome said allegations that some citizens had been prevented from casting their votes or that ballot boxes were tampered with were unproven.

“It is our finding that the declared president-elect attained 50 percent plus one of the votes cast” in accordance with the constitution, Koome said. “This is a unanimous decision of the court.”
