Interior CS Fred Matiang’i responds to resignation calls by William Ruto allies

Interior CS Fred Matiang’I has dismissed resignation calls from William Ruto allies who have accused him of favouring ODM leader Raila Odinga.

On Monday, November 1, Matiang’i defended himself and his ICT Counterpart Joe Mucheru, saying their work is only creating a conducive environment for the 2022 General Election.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’I argued that he has no powers to interfere with the mandate of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

“We, in the security sector, do not conduct elections – that is the mandate of the IEBC, and our work to support the Commission by providing security,”Matiang’i said.

While dismissing the calls from William Ruto allies, Matiang’I vowed not to be intimidated by their uproar.

“Don’t be intimidated by threats. You are only answerable and accountable to the people of Kenya, and your job is to uphold the zero tolerance policy on those who encourage political intolerance,” he said.

Politicians allied to William Ruto have been calling for the resignation of Matiang’I, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa and their CT counterpart Joe Mucheru.

They argued that the Cabinet Secretaries hold powerful positions that are right at the centre of the 2022 polls, and will use it in favour of Raila Odinga.

On Monday, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei revealed that the rigging of the elections in favour of Raila Odinga had already begun.

He called on President Uhuru to fire the Cabinet Secretaries to guarantee fair polls.

“I want to say this without the fear of contradiction. The rigging of the 2022 general elections has already begun,”

“Uhuru, I heard you say recently that you want to protect this country. The only way you will achieve that is if you fire these CSs and give these roles to different people,” Cherargei remarked.
