In September 2022, President William Ruto appointed his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta as his peace envoy for the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa.

The Supreme Court on Monday, September 5, upheld the election of William Ruto as the fifth President paving the way for his swearing-in.

Already, the Assumption of the Office of President Committee under the Assumption of the Office of President has commenced preparations for the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect and Deputy President-elect Rigathi Gachagua.

As prescribed in article 141 of the Kenyan Constitution the date on which the court renders a decision declaring the election to be valid, is the first Tuesday following seven days after the court gives its verdict.

As such, the swearing-in of President-elect William Ruto will take place on Tuesday, September 13.

Kivumbi.co.ke has learned that the National Treasury has allocated KSh 200 million to the 20-member committee that is preparing for the transition of power from President Uhuru Kenyatta to William Ruto.

“The allocation of KSh200 million under the Executive Office of the President is provided for in the National Treasury for Assumption of Office activities,” the Treasury said in a report on the Pre-Election Economic Update.

The Chief Justice or the deputy chief justice will administer the oath of office to the President-elect alongside the registrar of the High Court.

Once William Ruto is sworn in his deputy Rigathi Gachagua will also take the oath of office after which President Uhuru Kenyatta will be expected to hand over the instruments of power such as the Constitution and the sword of power to the new head of State.

Apart from preparing for his swearing-in, the committee is also tasked with organizing the security of the President-elect as well as coordinating the briefings of the President-elect by relevant public officers.

The committee is also expected to facilitate communication between the outgoing President and the President-elect.
