“Heb 10: 23, Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise,” William Ruto’s wife said shortly after the Supreme Court ruling.

The Supreme Court Monday afternoon upheld the election of William Samoei Ruto as Kenya’s fifth president, bringing Raila Odinga’s political journey to an end.

The Chief Justice Martha Koome-led Bench unanimously threw out a petition by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition candidate Raila Odinga, who argued the declaration of Ruto was null and void.

Supreme Court president Martha Koome on Monday, September 5, dismissed a petition by his opponent Raila Odinga, ruling that Ruto was duly elected in the August 9 General Election.

“The presidential election number E005 of 2022 as consolidated with presidential election petition numbers E001, 2, 3,4, 7, and 8 of 2022 is hereby dismissed,

“As a consequence, we declare the election of the first respondent as president-elect to be valid under Article143 of the constitution,” Koome stated.

In his 72-page petition last week, Raila had alleged that the UDA presidential flag bearer did not attain the 50 percent plus one vote threshold required by law.

President-elect William Ruto will be sworn in on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.

As prescribed in article 141 of the Kenyan Constitution the date on which the court renders a decision declaring the election to be valid, is the first Tuesday following seven days after the court gives its verdict.
