Opposition leader Raila Odinga last week jetted out of the country for a week-long business and private visit to the United Kingdom.

Odinga’s Communication Director Dennis Onyango, the opposition leader will use the time to rest and meet family and his business associates.

“He will also use his stay in the UK to rest and relax, which he doesn’t do enough back at home. He will return to Nairobi at the end of next week,” Onyango said.

However, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday, August 23, refuted Onyango’s report that the former Prime Minister had gone to meet family and business associates.

Gachagua who was speaking at State House Nakuru while hosting the Winners of the 95th Kenya Music Festival 2023, said Raila had gone to rest after the Kenya Kwanza government had done with him.

“Najua rais alipoapishwa ile mzee ya maandamano alianza kumsumbua. Akaanza kuvaa sufuria kwa kichwa na kuenda kwa barabara akaanza kuchoma vitu ya mananchi… na sasa tukasort out hiyo mambo na sasa tukasukuma yeye kwa kona sahi naskia ameenda kupumzika uingerezandio tumekuja kazini,” Gachagua said.

Earlier, the deputy president dismissed the ongoing bipartisan talks saying Raila had already struck a deal with Kenya Kwanza leader William Ruto.

The second in command revealed that Raila met President Ruto in Mombasa where the two agreed to end the anti-government protests.

He said that the Head of State rejected Raila’s proposal to have half of the government, three ambassadors but agreed to be given some retirement cash.
