Chuka Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene has warned opposition leaders to expect more arrests from their camp in the coming days.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Thursday, August 24, the lawmaker claimed that all opposition leaders who were engaged in shady deals during the Jubilee regime will be held accountable.

“You will see most of the leaders who will be arrested in the next year and it will not be a coincidence they will come from Azimio’s side,” he said.

He said those who were aligned with retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in the previous regime were immune to arrests but will now face the full wrath of the law.

Munene, who is a close ally of President William Ruto however said that those who were aligned with then-deputy President William Ruto were safe as they could not attempt to steal from public coffers by then.

“What happened when Azimio was formed and it made government and Uhuru Kenyatta was made their leader they ran a rampage because they were immune then? Those of us who were in Tangatanga could not have even attempted corruption because even a shilling in your M-Pesa was followed,” he said.

His comments come just a day after former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya was arrested over alleged embezzlement of KSh 1.3 billion.

Oparanya, who doubles up as ODM deputy party leader was arrested on Wednesday, August 23, and questioned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission detectives alongside his wife Priscilla.

EACC said in a statement that Oparanya’s arrest was part of numerous high-impact probes into the loss of public funds.
