The former presidential aspirant on Tuesday, May 17, headed back to his home county of Nyeri where she was received with joy and jubilation.

According to video clips doing rounds on social media platforms, the residents of Kirinyaga broke into songs and dances while carrying posters and placards praising women’s leadership.

The former Gichugu MP emerged as the best favorite to deputize the ODM leader after beating 11 other seasoned politicians including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka who were interviewed for the post.

Speaking after her appointment as Azimio’s running mate, the 64-year-old dismissed claims that the Raila-Karua ticket will not be sellable in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region as perceived by sections of Kenya Kwanza allies.

She assured President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner Raila Odinga that she will not let them down.

“I hit the ground running. I have gone to most of the counties in Central. Azimio la Umoja is gaining ground and I am saying watch this space because Mt Kenya is beckoning,” she said.

Karua said her nomination is a momentous occasion for both the women and men of Kenya.

“I feel the responsibility to deliver the vote and deliver the Azimio la Umoja promise to the people of Kenya,” she said.
