There has been a political difference between Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Francis Mureithi who has expressed interest in unseating the ODM legislator.
The two fierce rivals have on several occasions clashed with the latest melee in June 2022 leading to Mureithi’s hospitalization after he was injured at Jacaranda ground.
Babu will be defending his seat on an Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party while Mureithi is seeking to unseat Babu on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
On Sunday, June 19, supporters of Babu Owino and Francis Mureithi clashed over who between the two political factions was supposed to use the Jacaranda grounds.
However, on Wednesday, July 6, the two parliamentary candidates buried their hatchet barely a month before the August 9, General Election.
The two rivals held a prayer meeting at the constituency in which their supporters, police, and pastors attended.
“Today, my opponent and I held a successful prayer/peace meeting which brought together our supporters, DCC, police, and pastors from the Embakasi East Republic,” Owino said in a Facebook post.
Babu while quoting a Bible verse committed to a peaceful General Election.
“Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs,” Babu Owino said.
While their differences escalated during the Jacaranda melee, it is believed that the two had not been on good terms for quite some time.
On Monday, June 6, the ODM legislator Kivumbi.co.ke Owino took to social media to belittle his main challenger saying he was too ugly to lead.
In a Facebook post that he later pulled down, Babu said a leader must not only be sharp upstairs but must also have an inspiring look, the factors he said his bitter rival does not have.
“This is my opponent surely. He lacks both intellects and looks. A leader must have an inspiring look! ” he said while posting the photo of Mureithi.
