“I could not sit in peace because as the foreigners were talking, Gachagua kept asking me to interpret what they were saying. I helped and explained,” President Ruto said.

When it was DP Gachagua’s turn to speak, Ruto revealed that he could not believe the former Mathira Member of Parliament spoke fluent English.

“When it was his chance to speak, he spoke the same English he was asking me to interpret, leaving me wondering whether he was joking,” Ruto added.

As such, the Head of State lauded Gachagua for speaking fluent English and asked those who were in attendance to clap for him.

“Pongezi sana buana Riggy G… Tumpigie makofi kwa kuongea kingereza kizuri (Congratulations to Mr. Riggy G… Let’s give him a round of applause for speaking good English),” the president said.

Gachagua, who has since been branded as the ‘truthful’ man has been hitting news headlines due to his English.

At some point, the deputy president admitted that being the country’s second most senior political leader, his education was a little bit low.

“Kwa hile kazi nimepewa na rais, masomo yangu iko chini kidogo (From the work I have been given by my boss, my education is a little bit low,” Gachagua said in 2022.

Gachagua holds a degree in Political Science and Literature from the University of Nairobi (UoN).
