Raila now wants international communities to investigate vote-rigging claims

by Enock Ndayala

The Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) had announced plans to probe claims fronted by opposition leader Raila Odinga that the 2022 presidential elections were rigged.

This was after the former Prime Minister claimed that he was in the custody of a report showing that the 2022 presidential election was rigged in favor of President William Ruto.

However, speaking on Sunday, January 29, at the Jacaranda stadium, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party presidential candidate said that any investigations including those being carried out by DCI would be biased.

“Nimeona Yule anaitwa DCI akisema anataka kufanya uchunguzi. DCI wewe ni mwajiri wa Ruto huwezi kufanya uchunguzi (I have seen the one called DCI saying he wants to do an investigation. DCI, you are Ruto’s employer and you cannot conduct an investigation),” Raila said.

As such, the veteran politician now wants the international community to probe the allegations of electoral malpractices in the 2022 General Election.

“Tunataka Commonwealth secretariat na United Nations watume inspectors hapa Kenyan within the next two weeks (We want the Commonwealth secretariat and the United Nations to send inspectors here to Kenyans within the next two weeks),” Raila said.

Raila gave the United Nations and the Commonwealth a two-week ultimatum to deploy their investigators to probe the 2022 electoral malpractices stating that failure to which, they will take action by themselves.

Raila who got 6.9 million votes against William Ruto’s 7.1 million said the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party only wants the truth about what transpired in the election.

He said the truth will only be known once the Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) allowed them access to the servers.

“As Azimio, we want the truth to be known. This will only happen if we are allowed access to the IEBC server,” Raila said.
