William Ruto dares President Uhuru to a political contest

by Amos Khaemba

Deputy President William Ruto has hit back at President Uhuru, saying that he is ready for a political contest ahead of the August 9, General Election.

The second in command said he is well prepared to face the president who has announced his entry into politics.

Speaking in Kakamega on Tuesday, February 8, during the Kenya Kwanza alliance rally, Ruto alluded that without him Jubilee government would have not been formed.

“They are obsessed with managing their succession but I want to tell them that we are ready for that contest my friends, bring it on. Tuko tayari kabisa,” said Ruto.

The deputy president was adamant that he will continue taking credit for the projects initiated by the Jubilee government saying he has an equal stake in the government.

“You cannot deny me as deputy president the credit for many projects that we have achieved together. It is not going to happen my friends. Anybody imagining that they can deny me credit is wasting their time,

“Jubilee government was a joint project between me and my friend President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Ruto said.

Ruto at the same time castigated President Uhuru Kenyatta’s comments that work is not done in offices and not on top vehicles.

He reminded the president that its policies are made in office but the actual work is implemented in the field.

“I have been in government long enough to understand that policies and theoretical works are done in offices but implemented on the ground that sometimes entails doing so on top of cars,” He added as the crowd cheered.

Ruto’s comments come after President Uhuru on Monday, February 7, warned Ruto and his allies to be ready for political battle.

“Sasa kipindi cha siasa kimefika na mtatusikia. Kuna wakati wa kazi na wakati wa siasa, sasa kila mtu ako na uhuru; wale ambao walitangulia na wale ambao tunaingia,

Loosely translated to “Now the time for politicking is here, you will hear from us. There is time to work and time to play politics; now everyone is free, those who started before and those of us who are joining the fray,” Uhuru told a gathering at the coastal town
