Governor Abdi has been blamed for squandering funds meant to fight the spread of the covid-19 in the county, hence paralyzing health systems.

Earlier, when a committee of 11 Senators recommended his ouster, Abdi pleaded with them to spare him\ as he had achieved alot during his tenure.

According to him, his case was not gross misconduct but only a minor mistake. He went ahead to list his achievements in the health sector.

“I wish to plead with the senators to be sympathetic and not just impeach me just because of one issue. It can be a violation of the Constitution but it is not a gross violation,” Mohammed Abdi said.

“The main impeachment is said to be gross violation of the Constitution by not providing adequate health facilities…According to me, we have provided enough…I could be impeached for violation of the Constitution but it cannot be for gross misconduct,” he added.

However, the Committee chaired by Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni argued that Abdi was culpable of running down Wajir’s health system, exposing residents to health dangers.

During the hearing, an MCA from Wajir testified against the Governor, saying that the health system was on its knees.

“A total of KSh2.92 billion was allocated towards improvement of the current health care system…. despite these colossal amounts…. Under the keen eye of the governor, the health system fell into disrepute, disrepair and failed as a whole,” he said.
