Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party leader Raila Odinga on Sunday, February 5, defended the family of former president Jomo Kenyatta against tax wars.

Addressing a rally at Kamukunji grounds in Kibra, the opposition leader said President William Ruto was hiding behind the tax debate to hoodwink Kenyans after he failed to deliver on election promises.

“Yesterday, they attacked Mama Ngina Kenyatta yet she was arrested during the Mau Mau and locked up in Kamiti. How can you attack such a mother who is almost 90 years?” Raila questioned.

But in a statement, Blogger turned Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi fired salvos at the veteran politician for defending the former first family.

Itumbi on Monday, February 6, asked Raila to pay KSh 344 million he owes the tax man.

He said the opposition leader dumped oil in December 2022.

“Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga before you put President William Ruto to task, pay your taxes. You know you dumped fuel in December 2022, pay up the KSh 344 million owed to KRA,

“This matter will not be left to tax collectors it is a top priority for Kenyans. Kulipa ushuru ni kujitegemea,” Itumbi said in a Tweet.

Earlier, former Presidential aspirant Jimi Wanjigi had warned President Ruto’s government against targeting former first lady Mama Ngina in the ongoing purge against tax cheat.

Wanjigi accused the Kenya Kwanza government of targeting Mt Kenya billionaires adding that the other rich people from the region will follow the suit.

“Going after Mama Ngina and the late Jomo Kenyatta you are now touching a live wire. Because if you are trying to take away mzee Jomo’s property, it means our properties are not even safe,” Wanjigi said.
