The battle for Rift Valley votes is set to take a new turn after KANU chairman Gideon Moi announced that he will be taking the first stab at the Presidency in August 2022.

Since the retirement of Kenya’s long-serving President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, the Rift Valley has been perceived to be William Ruto’s stronghold as the deputy president has been enjoying huge support from the region.

And now Baringo senator Gideon Moi’s bid for next year’s presidency hopes to reclaim the title held by his father for decades as it sets to officially renew the battle for Rift Valley kingpin.

Gideon Moi, a descendant of a notable family has already assembled a team of technocrats and think tanks to craft his 2022 manifesto as he prepares to have control of the Rift Valley region ahead of the 2022 General Election.

According to KANU Secretary General Nick Salat, Kenya’s oldest political party KANU has decided to chart its own path to field a presidential candidate in the hotly anticipated 2022 presidential race.

“As Kanu, we are going to have our own presidential candidate in 2022, the name of our candidate is going to be unveiled before the end of the month,” Salat said as quoted by the Star Newspaper.

This could not only mark the beginning of a showdown in the Rift Valley region but also mark the beginning of the end of the One Kenya Alliance, an amorphous outfit that houses Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya).

This makes three the number of OKA principals who have insisted that they will be on the ballot for the top seat come 2022 with Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula being left at a crossroads.

During former President Moi’s burial in February last year, Rongai MP Raymond Moi, elder son of the second President, handed over the family baton to Baringo Senator signaling transfer of leadership.
