Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has criticized a section of Kenyans who study and work abroad.

Speaking at the Keses constituency, the United Democratic Alliance lawmaker said Kenyans working in the diaspora tend to group themselves and party using their parent’s money.

Sudi said some of the students were sponsored by the church while others sold their land to send their children abroad only to come back in cascades due to excessive use of drugs.

“Mimi nataka niseme hivi, nyinyi nduu zetu na dada zetuwenye mumepata nafasi umeenda nje ya nchi kama Australia, America, London na Canada, nataka niwaombe kwa heshima sana muwache kutesa wazazi wenu,” Sudi said.

Loosely translated to: “To our brothers and sisters who have had the opportunity to go abroad like Australia, America, London, and Canada, I want to ask you very respectfully to stop torturing your parents.”

The country has in the recent past recorded several cases where Kenyans living in the diaspora have been dying mysteriously.

For instance, a Kenyan woman and her daughter were in 2023 found murdered in Finland.

Catherine Anyango and her daughter Michelle were found dead inside their van in the main parking lot of the resort town of Tahko on February 9th, the Nation reported.

Local media reported that Catherine, 43, and Michelle had gone to work in Nilsi where they had a food stand but did not return home.

Recently, a family from Muhanda in Gem Constituency appealed for government intervention following the murder of their kin Enock Wamare.

Thirty-year-old Enock Hosea Wamare was reportedly killed in South Africa, where he worked for the last 11 years.
