Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has unlocked a new Karate belt.
On Sunday, October 1, the youthful legislator graduated from a white belt to a blue belt in karate.
The ODM legislator graduated through a special karate competition held at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani Stadium over the weekend.
The event dubbed the 2023 Patron’s Karate Championship was organized by the World Authority Traditional Karate Association of Kenya (WATKA) from 30 September to 1 October 2023 involving participants from across 47 counties.
Speaking after earning the blue belt, the lawmaker said that he had been training hard and fighting easy and asked his enemies to be very cautious with him.
“I came here for grading, I have been promoted from a white belt to a blue belt, now be very cautious when you come to me,” he told reporters after receiving his new title.
Babu, who is also the Patron of the Karate championship, showcased his impressive Karate skills and further warned his opponents, particularly the Kenya Kwanza faction.
“This is how I will deal with Kenya Kwanza MPs who are cantankerous. ‘Hakuna kucheka na Mtu’ this time round. Successful Tournament today at Kasarani Stadium.”
The belt ranking system is a way to grade martial artists, using colored belts to indicate their skill level and expertise.
The belt colors and ranks vary widely, depending on style, school, and even country. The most common belt colors are: white, yellow, orange, green, turquoise, blue, brown, and black.
Many current karate styles borrow from the judo kyu/dan ranking system, with the epitome of the journey being the awarding of the black belt.
