Former commissioner of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissioner (IEBC) Roselyn Akombe has landed back in the country.

“No place like home. Kenya,” Akombe captioned her images believed to be from a photo shoot in Kenya.

The former IEBC commissioner insisted that the 2017 presidential election was marred with irregularities and asked President William Ruto to form an independent judicial inquiry into the 2017 elections and the murder of Chriss Musando.

“Still waiting for your government to set up an independent judicial inquiry into the 2017 elections and the murder of Chriss Musando to give my testimony under oath. Anything else is “hot air,” she said in her comment section.

Akombe fled the country to New York, United States in 2017 just days before the scheduled presidential election re-run after the Supreme Court had annulled Rtd. President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win.

The outspoken scholar said her fleeing the country was forced due to threats and intimidation which could not guarantee the electoral commission delivering a free and fair election.

In one of her media interviews, Akombe claimed that death threats were anonymous adding that she had been put under pressure to resign.

“I do not feel safe enough to go back home. This is not what I thought,” she said.

In the aftermath of the 2022 General Election, Akombe expressed her devastation following the gruesome murder of the Embakasi Constituency returning officer.

“Devastated that the missing IEBC Kenya Returning Officer has been found murdered in a forest. I remember Mbolu as a diligent officer who dedicated his life to public service. I send my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. A public inquest into his death is urgent,” she said.
