Siaya Deputy Governor vows to work with President Ruto, threaten to expose Orengo’s corrupt deals

The push and pull between Siaya Governor James Orengo and his deputy William Oduol is far from over.

This was after the deputy governor who was elected on an ODM party ticket in the 2022 General Election on Wednesday, August 30, vowed to work with the opponents of Governor James Orengo.

In a video shared on social media by Citizen TV, the embattled politician stated that he had made a deliberate and conscious decision to work with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza political formation.

He said, that when he took an oath of office together with his boss James Orengo, they took it under the banner of good governance which he said was currently not happening in the county.

“I William Oduol, an ODM elected deputy governor made a deliberate decision to work with Kenya Kwanza. I and James Orengo came under the banner of good governance, and transparency, but that is not happening,” Oduol said.

Oduol stated that the decision to work with the government was for the sake of development of the entire region adding that he was not ready to work with corrupt people in a clear reference to Siaya governor James Orengo.

“We are very quick to talk about corruption at the National level but we are not talking about devolved corruption in Siaya County,” he added.

His comments come just months after 42 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in June 2023, unanimously adopted the report of the special committee that was established to investigate the grounds for which a motion of impeachment was tabled against him.

However, Oduol survived impeachment after 27 out of 43 senators voted to keep him in office.

Senators allied to President William Ruto openly supported Oduol while those allied to opposition leader Raila Odinga sought to have him impeached.
