Fidel, the first-born son of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was found dead in his bed on January 4, 2015, after a night out with his friends.

In her ninth-anniversary remembrance message, Ida Betty Odinga, the wife of the veteran politician Raila Odinga indicated how it has been hard for her, to come to terms with the death of her son.

“Nine years later, I have struggled to accept something that these years without you have taught me. Perhaps, you may have just lived enough because you lived so right. Your passing away, no doubt, shook me and shook us. Nothing in this world will ever be able to replace your presence around us,” she said on her Facebook page on Thursday, January 4.

 In a strongly worded tribute to her late son Fidel Odinga, Ida despite the pain, expressed the belief that Fidel is with them every day, and they continue to embrace and embody his joy, love, and kindness.

“So, as you turn 9 as the son I lost, I know you are always here with us and we are with you. You live in us every day and we continue to enjoy and practice your joy, love, and kindness the way you taught us,” she said.

Raila’s wife expressed how she vividly reflected on Fidel’s growth, kindness, and the enduring memories that continue to illuminate his life.

“Then you grew up tall, loving, caring, happy, and incomparably kind. I still remember you in these ways. We still remember you in these ways,” the message read.
