Speaking during the 30th Anniversary of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga at Ofafa Hall in Kisumu, Ida said the country’s longest-serving opposition leader tricked her that he would take her for a ride in Kisumu town.

However, along the way, Raila diverted and drove through bushes and villages and took her to his home instead.

“My boyfriend then, Raila Odinga, lied to me that he was taking me for a ride from Kisumu. He took me for a ride through villages and bushes until we arrived at a well-organized home. I asked him, ‘Where is this?’ and he casually responded, ‘This is my home.’” she said.

Ida who recently turned 73 years expressed her surprise saying she was shocked because she went and met his father-in-law to be unprepared.

“I was so shocked. I said, ‘Why didn’t you tell me that you are coming to your home? I would have prepared myself mentally and even dress-wise.’ When we got there, the next thing he told me was to come and meet his father,” she said.

Ida said that their first meeting went well and even his late father-in-law gave her KSh 200 which was a lot of money back then to buy soda on her way back.

Ida spoke highly of Jaramogi, describing him as a kind man, revealing that after that first meeting, he became part of the Jaramogi Odinga family.

“From there, he made quick arrangements for me to get married and until today, I remain the daughter-in-law,” she said.
