Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s ODM party last month expelled five legislators over their alleged association with the Kenya Kwanza government.

Among those who were axed include Kisumu Senator Tom Ojenda who is on the verge of losing his seat if the party removes his name from the register.

However, even after being expelled, the Kisumu Senator has vowed to continue working with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government.

Speaking on Tuesday, September 19, while launching an office for the Achego sub-location assistant chief in Kisumu County, Ojenda said the opposition cannot uplift the lives of common citizens.

The lawmaker who was elected to the ODM party maintained that only the government can uplift the standards of the people.

“There are signs of development that you can see. And that is why I say I will always stand with the government because the government is the only way that you can bring development to your people,” he said.

Ojienda was expelled together with Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Caroli Omondo (Suba South), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), and Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’a of Lang’ata.

The move to tame them followed a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that was chaired by ODM party leader Raila Odinga in Nairobi.

Other rebel MPs were instructed to write an apology and pay fines of various amounts to the party.

They include Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris who was fined to the tune of KSh 250,000 for going against the party’s stand on the Finance Bill 2023.

Uriri MP Mark Nyamita and his Rongo counterpart Paul Abuor were fined a whooping KSh 1 million each.
