President Uhuru’s allies list tough conditions for handshake with Ruto

by Enock Ndayala
In September 2022, President William Ruto appointed his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta as his peace envoy for the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa.

Allies of President Uhuru Kenyatta have given Deputy President William Ruto tough conditions before he can reunite with his boss.

This comes barely a day after the second in command said he was ready and willing to unconditionally mend fences with his boss

Led by MPs Maoka Maore (Igembe North), Jeremiah Kioni (Ndaragwa), Ngunjiri Wambugu (Nyeri Town), Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Jude Njomo (Kiambu), and Mwathi Munagi (Limuru), the legislators said the deputy president must first stop his regular onslaught against his boss.

While it’s in the public domain that the relationship between the two leaders has been frosty, Wangwe told the Saturday Nation that it is good for the two leaders to reconcile but asked the former Agriculture Minister to admit his mistakes first.

“Reconciliation is biblical. It is the sinner who says what wrongs he has committed. Let the deputy President tell Kenyans what went wrong,” Wangwe said.

Kioni, an ardent defender of President Uhuru Kenyatta on his part said DP Ruto should first stop popularising the newly rebranded outfit United Democratic Alliance (UDA) if he is sincere about the reconciliation.

The legislators further said the deputy president must respect the famous March 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Kiambu MP Jude Njomo also told Ruto that he should respect the handshake between Uhuru and Raila before he seeks to mend broken fences with his boss adding that they will not allow the DP to bring a ceasefire in the Kieleweke camp.

“I hope the DP is not calling for a ceasefire to bring friction in our camp,” Njomo said adding that the second in command must call his allies to order and stop them from attacking the Head of State.

During a meeting with grassroots leaders from Kandara Constituency on Thursday, September 16, Ruto heeded to the calls of the clergy to reconcile with his boss for the sake of the country’s peace.

“I am ready, the bishops have said they want to reconcile me with the president, I am ready, without any condition,” Ruto said.
