Bomet County Members of Parliament have elected Cosmas Korir as the County assembly speaker.
Korir, who won the KSh 208 Sportpesa mega jackpot in 2018 was elected the fourth speaker of the Bomet County Assembly after garnering 32 votes.
His closest competitor is former Kipsonoi Member of County Assembly Weldon Kirui scooping a paltry 6 votes.
In his acceptance speech, the former Sportpesa Mega jackpot winner assured county legislators that he will provide participatory and consultative leadership.
“I will work with all members from across the political divide to ensure that their welfare is well taken care of,” Korir said.
Korir ran for the Konoin parliamentary seat in the just-ended August 9, General Election on the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party picket but lost.
Korir was the third SportPesa Mega Jackpot winner walking away with KSh 208, 733, 619 on a KSh 100 bet in September 2010.
As soon as the money hit his account, Cosmas walked into a car bazaar and drove out in a Toyota Landcruiser V8.
“I got it at KSh 12 million, cash money, and it serves me well to date. It has no loan,” he noted.
Having grown up in a dilapidated house, Cosmas channeled some KSh 2 million towards constructing a new permanent house in the village.
Since then, Korir has been involved in various money-generating projects as well as charity projects including assisting Longisa County Referral Hospital and the surrounding dispensaries in acquiring ICU beds and health equipment respectively.
He has also helped equip local football as well as providing food to the elderly, disabled and children homes.
Korir channeled part of the lottery funds into worthwhile investments, purchasing apartments and pieces of land for himself.
Cosmas also acquired a hotel for his wife and mother of their three children to empower her financially.
