Lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi banned from ever appearing before Supreme Court

by Enock Ndayala
The Supreme Court on Thursday, January 18, banned outspoken lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi from appearing before it.

The Supreme Court has banned Senior Counsel Ahmednassir Abdulahi from appearing before it over his continued attacks on judges and the Judiciary.

A full-seven-judge bench in a statement accused the lawyer of “relentlessly and unabashedly conducting a campaign in the broadcast, print and social media aimed at scandalizing, ridiculing and out rightly denigrating the Court.”

“Given the foregoing, it is the decision of this Court, that henceforth and from the date of this Communication, you shall have no audience before the Court, either by yourself, through an employee of your law firm, or any other person holding brief for you, or acting under your instructions,” it said.

In a letter drafted by Letizia Muthoni Wachira, the Registrar of the Supreme Court on Thursday, January 18, said that the decision is bound to affect litigants who had already sought the senior counsel’s legal services before the Court.

“It is untenable that you would seek justice in the very institution and before the very Judges, whose reputation and integrity you never tire of assaulting”.

Chief Justice Martha Koome, her deputy Philomena Mwilu, and Justices Mohamed Khadhar Ibrahim, Smokin Wanjala, Justice Njoki Susanna Ndung’u, Isaac Lenaola, and William Ouko argued that they warned the SC that such conduct would in the future, not go unpunished.

Ahmednassir in a quick rejoinder seemed unmoved by the Courts decision terming the Supreme Court as the most corrupt entity.

“Isn’t it a badge of honor for the most corrupt court in Kenya to refuse me and my law firm an audience?” He posed.
