TSC transfers all teachers from school where MP Salasya harassed head teacher

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has transferred 17 teachers of St Gabriel Isongo Secondary School in Mumias East, Constituency Kakamega County.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has transferred 17 teachers of St Gabriel Isongo Secondary School in Mumias East, Constituency Kakamega County.

This is after the area MP Peter Salasya incited a section of parents and the community against the teachers.

Salasya, together with their parents went straight to the principal’s office and Frog marched him out of the school compound accusing him of failing to uphold the school’s academic standards.

“We want commitment from the principals that’s why we have called for that meeting, no you have to go home. No, acha niweke some sympathy, you have to transfer,” Salasya said.

Among the 179 candidates enrolled at the school, the recently released results revealed a distribution of one B, one B-, 8 Cs, 12 C-s, 24 D+s, 46 Ds, 79 D-s, and 4 Es.

A section of key education stakeholders such as Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu strongly condemned the incident terming it shameful.

“This must stop. Some head teachers and principals have been threatened. It is shameful,” Oyuu said.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has since issued a warning to communities that have been staging attacks against teachers.

“We wish to remind communities behind these regrettable attacks that learner achievement in examinations is the reflection of the overall input from all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and candidates themselves,” he stated.
