Ruto is expected to retire in 2032 only if he can be elected for the second time in the next election scheduled in 2027.

Speaking in the Sirisia constituency on Monday, January 22, Ichungwah who doubles up as National Assembly Majority thanked the residents of Bungoma County for voting for President William Ruto in the 2022 elections.

Ichungwah said for the first time, Bungoma County is what made President William Ruto win the 2022 presidential elections.

The youthful legislator asked the leaders of the region to stand together adding that Kenya Kwanza could return the favours by endorsing Moses Wetang’ula.

“Simnajua mimi na Weta ndio tumeshikilia pale bunge…Na ninataka niwaambie hapo mbele muangalie huyu Papa wa Roma vizuri (I hope you all know that Wetan’ula and I are leading the parliament… And I want to tell you in advance to look carefully at this Wetang’ula),” he said.

Ichungwah’s comments come at a time when Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned leaders against engaging in succession politics against President William Ruto.

Speaking in Tinderet, Nandi County, Gachagua said the President has served for only one year and has nine more to go before he retires.

“The President was elected a year ago. Some are discussing how they will succeed him. It is not time to discuss how to succeed the President. It is time to work. Let us focus on helping the President. We will discuss the rest later. Currently, we are focused on service delivery,” Gachagua said.
