Francis Atwoli: Azimio mismanaged 2022 presidential elections

Atwoli said he will rally the Mulembe community to unite ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has said that Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party mismanaged the 2022 presidential elections that saw Raila Odinga lose to William Ruto.

Speaking in Busia County on Sunday, January 28, the COTU boss said Azimio la Umoj One Kenya Coalition Party had no agents in most parts of the polling station.

Atwoli further said that Raila had no strategic election committee, a move that played in favor of his rival William Ruto.

COTU boss Francis Atwoli has said that Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party mismanaged the 2022 presidential elections that saw Raila Odinga lose to William Ruto.

“I did not hide them. And indeed we mismanaged the whole election. We didn’t have agents; we didn’t have any logistics and strategic election committee,” Atwoli said.

Atwoli, who dumped Raila for President Ruto immediately after the Supreme Court ruling that annulled Raila’s petition, defended his move to work with the president.

He said he had informed the former Prime Minister that he would work with William Ruto if he became President in 2022.

“And I told my Azimio people if you mismanage the election and you are not elected, I will return to my office and when I return to my office you should know that I will work with the government,” Atwoli said.

Atwoli further defended his move of working with Ruto, whom he once criticized saying his job is to negotiate with the government of the day to ensure workers get better welfare.

“We employers and government and workers will work together because government provides an enabling environment from where we exist. And that is our job, to negotiate with the government,” Atwoli said.

However, Raila has in the recent past slammed Raila for working with Ruto saying he has forgotten his role and has since gone into bed with the government of the day.
