Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has been the subject of discussion as to whether he graduated from the United States International University (USIU).
But Job Masika, a social media user who claims to be a good friend to the senator, shared a booklet from USIU indicating that indeed, Malala graduated in the year 2011.
From the booklet, the student by the name of Cleophas Wakhungu Malalah is among those who graduated with a degree in Information System and Technology.
At the same time on Sunday, May 29, the university took to Twitter to deny responding to Malala’s degree saga, terming the online statement as fake.
“You are advised to ignore any untrue malicious rumors circulating online regarding the validity of our degree certificates.
The respective vetting and regulatory authorities have access to this information and promptly receive the necessary validation details when requests for said validation are made through official university channels,” said USIU.
The response by the University came after a letter emerged on social media purporting to be the response of the university management distancing themselves from Malala’s claims that he was a student at the institution.
On Friday, May 27, the senator shared his academic testimonials to dispel rumors that he failed the exam.
“Those who cherish propaganda, feel ashamed. Attached are the true copies of my academic accolades.” Malala said.
The move by the Kakamega gubernatorial candidate sparked debates as many social media users doubted the authenticity of the documents shared.
Vocal blogger Robert Alai took to social media to allege that the documents shared by the senator were doctored.

“From USIU records (where I am an alumnus), Malala started going to school 12 years ago. He still hasn’t finished 4 courses including the final project. ” Alai alleged
