President Uhuru’s sister to be nominated to senate

by Enock Ndayala

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s sister Kristina Wambui Pratt could be nominated to the senate after the much-awaited August 9, General Election.

This was after the ruling outfit proposed President Uhuru’s step-sister for the party’s nomination to the senate.

In a list published by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Kristina is listed second among 16 women that the ruling party has settled on as its nominees to the legislative house.

Despite coming from one of Kenya’s top political families, Kristina,70, who was recently awarded an honorary degree has no political history.

Her nomination comes just days after Kenyatta University on Friday, July 22, awarded President Uhuru’s stepsister an Honorary Degree.

The award, which is awarded without examination, was given to Pratt during the graduation ceremony which was presided over by Kenyatta University Chancellor Benson Wairegi.

Pratt was nominated for her role in defending people Living With Disabilities (PLWDs).

Others who were proposed for possible nomination to legislative roles include Murang’a county woman representative, Sabina Chege to the National Assembly as well Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu.

Other members that have presented for nomination to the senate include Deputy speaker of the senate Professor Margaret Kamar, Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) of Livestock and fisheries, Lina Jebii Kilimo, and Rukia Ahmed Subo Muhamed, who currently serves as Kenyan Ambassador to Iran.

It should be understood that Wambui’s proposal for nomination in the legislative roles is not unusual for kins and relatives of powerful politicians.

In what appears like a political dynasty, former Dagoreti Member of Parliament and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin Beth Mugo was nominated to the National Assembly before she was nominated to the senate in 2017.

In 2017, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s son Kennedy Musyoka was nominated to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
