Moses Kuria opens talks to work with William Ruto

by Amos Khaemba

Chama Cha Kazi party leader Moses Kuria has opened talks with Deputy President William Ruto with the aim of forming a grand coalition with the yet-to-be registered Kenya Kwanza alliance coalition party ahead of the August 9 General Election.

Taking to his Facebook page on Friday, March 4, the Gatundu lawmaker revealed that his party and 21 other political parties are in early talks with the proposed Kenya Kwanza Alliance which brings together William Ruto’s UDA, Musalia Miudavadi’s ANC, and Moses Wetangula’s Ford Kenya.

“This is to inform Kenyans that Chama Cha Kazi Party and 21 other political parties are in early talks with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance that will lead to a very broad-based grand coalition that will deliver the nation to peace and prosperity,” Kuria posted on Facebook.

The outspoken legislature who has been unpredictable in his 2022 coalition formation recently said that the Azimio la Umoja camp is not an option for him as the country heads to the August 9 polls.

Speaking in Kiambu County on Tuesday March 1, during the burial of the mother to the former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, Kuria said no one should take him to Azimio even if he is dead.

“Unajua kwa hii uhai mimi ndio ninajiamulia, hakuna siku utanipata kwa Azimio…lakini hata nikikufa, msinipeleke kwa Azimio (In this life, I am the one to make the decision about my direction, you’ll never see me in Azimio La Umoja…and even if I die, don’t take me to there).” Kuria said.

The move by the Chama Cha Kazi leader effectively means the August election is going to be a two-horse race between two grand coalitions.

In the 2022 polls, it looks like we are going to have two formations one formed around the ODM leader Raila Odinga dubbed Azimio and another formed aroud William Ruto dubbed Kenya Kwanza.

There were expectation of a third force political formation fronted by One Kenya Alliance but it looks unlikely as Kalonzo Musyokas team is already in talks with Azimio team.
