ODM Secretary General in fist fight with blogger Robert Alai

by Enock Ndayala

On Saturday, July 16, the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party toured eight constituencies in Nairobi to campaign ahead of the August 9, General Election.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who is contesting the Nairobi Senate seat, and ODM Kileleshwa Ward MCA candidate Robert Alai accompanied 2022 presidential front runner Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua.

While in Kawangware, the two leaders engaged in a violent public altercation.

Sifuna, who is contesting the Nairobi Senate seat, and ODM Kileleshwa Ward MCA candidate Robert Alai had accompanied 2022 presidential front runner Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua.

In video footage seen by Kivumbi.co.ke, the blogger, who is throwing his hat into elective politics for the first time was seen climbing a vehicle in which Sifuna was standing with other Azimio leaders before confronting him physically.

This forced the ODM party spokesperson to defend himself against Alai’s attacks.

It is reported that the blogger was protesting the decision by Sifuna, who was the event’s master of ceremony, to deny him a chance to address the crowd.

The duo’s brawl prompted the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was addressing the crowd to lose his cool and beckoned the MCA aspirant to retract.

“Alai, Alai. What is happening!” Raila Odinga exclaimed as a section of politicians and security details stepped in to separate the two politicians.

Speaking on the incident, the lawyer dismissed claims that he had been hospitalized following a violent public altercation with Alai.

On his part, Alai termed the incident as a matter of ensuring that one is accorded respect regardless of their position.

He further stated that he would be focusing on his Kileleshwa ward campaigns.

“Finishing strong! Let respect prevail (heshima idumu). If they don’t give it, insist on everyone being respected – poor or rich, young or old,” Alai stated.

It is understood that this is not the first time Sifuna has denied other Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition leaders a chance to speak.

On Monday, July 4, Sifuna was seen chasing singer Bahati out of the Mathare rally before he could even speak.
