Charity Ngilu: Those asking Kalonzo to vie for president just using him

by Enock Ndayala

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has warned Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka against some party loyalists pushing him to vie for the presidency.

Speaking on Monday, January 17, at the Enashipai Resort in Naivasha during ODM leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja consultative meeting, Ngilu said those pushing Kalonzo to vie are after winning elections at his expense.

“Unfortunately, Kalonzo (Musyoka) is being pushed by some fake loyalists within Wiper (Democratic Party) who want to win elections at his expense without caring the needs of the (Kamba) community after elections,” the governor said.

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has warned Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka against some party loyalists pushing him to vie for the presidency.

Ngilu who is among the 30 governors supporting Raila Odinga’s State House bid further warned the Kamba community from voting for the former vice-president.

While exuding confidence that the One Kenya Alliance co-principal will not win the upcoming elections, the first time governor said the Kamba community cannot afford to be taken to the opposition for the third time.

She stated that it is clear that the August 2022 General Election is a two-horse race between the ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto.

“The Kamba community will vote wisely in the August elections. We cannot afford to be taken to the opposition for the third time. Kalonzo should therefore tell us who he can get enough votes across the 47 counties to clinch the presidency,” she added.

Her remarks come barely days after Kalonzo Musyoka launched his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta who is expected to retire in August 2022.

On Saturday, January 15, the Wiper leader officially launched his presidential bid at a meeting of political leaders drawn from the larger Ukambani region convened at his Yatta home.

During the meeting, a snake temporarily interrupted Kalonzo Musyoka’s meeting in a bizarre incident that a section of Kenyans say is a bad omen.
