Ex-MCA threatens to kill man who defeated him in elections

by Enock Ndayala

A former Member of the County Assembly has been charged with allegedly threatening to kill his successor.

Dennis Wambua, who represented Kisau/Kiteta Ward between 2017 and 2022 earlier, claimed that the current lawmaker Dennis Kioko Mainga stole his victory.

Wambua went ahead and unsuccessfully filed a petition but was ordered to pay his successor Kioko to the tune of KSh 1 million for the damages.

The prosecution told the court that the former County legislator protested the court ruling and instead accused the court of receiving kickbacks to dismiss his case.

As such, the lawmaker insisted that the will of the people was overturned and that he will not surrender unless one of them is buried.

“My votes were stolen, and I went to Tawa Court but later realized that there was no court in Tawa, only money changes hands. Money was poured, and my case was thrown out,

“I cannot surrender. It’s either the current MCA die, or I die. Because my votes cannot be stolen and then ordered to pay somebody one million. It’s not possible,” the prosecution said.

However, appearing before Chief Magistrate Susan Shituni at the Milimani Law Courts, Wambua denied the charges leveled against him.

He was then released on a bond of KSh 500,000 or a cash bail of KSh 200,000. The former MCA was further directed not to contact the complainant or witnesses as a condition for the bond as reported by Tuko.co.ke on Friday, August 4.

After the hotly contested August 2022 General Election, several losers filed petitions at various courts across the country.

However, the majority of the cases filed were dismissed including that of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga.
