No turning back: Kalonzo makes clear plans to vie for the presidency

by Enock Ndayala
The Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has given the clearest hint of working with the ODM leader Raila Odinga in the coming August 9, General Election.

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has made good his threats to vie for the country’s top seat just two days after his party resolved to return to Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party.

This is after Wiper Party officials on Wednesday, May 25, submitted Kalonzo Musyoka’s credentials including 48,000 signatures to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for possible clearance to vie for the presidency.

On Monday, May 16, the former vice president ditched Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Party after the 2022 presidential front runner Raila Odinga settled on Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua as his 2022 presidential running mate.

Kalonzo then named Sankuli as his August 9, 2022, presidential running mate setting the stage for a bruising battle with presidential election front runners William Ruto and Raila Odinga.

He made clear that he had a candid conversation with the ODM leader Raila Odinga and that the Azimio la Umoja presidential flag bearer was aware of his plans to challenge him for the country’s top seat.

“My brother Raila knows I am naming my running mate. He came to my house to try and convince me to accept his choice. We disagreed, and he said he would choose Martha, and I told him I would choose my running mate,” he said.

Kivumbi.co.ke had reported that the Wiper leader had been paid to a tune of KSh 3 billion to support ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presumably last presidential attempt.

In a statement posted on Wednesday, May 25, the Chama Cha Kazi (CCM) party leader claimed that the former vice president got the second-largest share someone has ever received in the country to agree to a certain political position.

“Transfer fee….KSh 3 Billion. It’s only second to the KSh 10 Billion that Jakom (Raila Odinga) got to cool down the country after 2017 (protracted Presidential election). Well done Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka,” Moses Kuria said in a Facebook post.
