Raila Odinga says President Ruto’s team for bipartisan talks is weak

by Enock Ndayala

Azimio leaders Raila Odinga, Martha Karua, and Kalonzo Musyoka Tuesday, August 15, were in Makueni for the funeral of Brian Mwendwa who was allegedly shot dead by police during protests.

The opposition luminaries made several stops over in Makueni where they interacted with locals.

Addressing residents of Emali on their way to the funeral, Raila exuded confidence that the Azimio bipartisan team will floor the Kenya Kwanza in the ongoing talks.

Raila termed Azimio’s bipartisan team as “Azimio First 11” and that their counterpart brought a third-division team.

“We’ve agreed to talk and our team is led by Kalonzo. It’s called Azimio’s first eleven while they have brought a thirds-division team led by someone called Ichungwah,” he said.

The Azimio bipartisan talks team will be led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and will include Minority Leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi and DAP Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa.

Others include Nyamira Senator Okon’go Omogeni and Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi.

The Kenya Kwanza team will be led by National Assembly Majority Leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa.

Others include Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar and Bungoma Woman Rep Catherine Wambilianga.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua last week asked Kenya Kwanza bipartisan team leader Kimani Ichungwah to give his best and ensure that his side is not cornered by the opposition.

The second in command warned the Majority Leader in the National Assembly of dire consequences if he would become a sellout in the upcoming Kenya Kwanza-Azimio talks.

“You have been given the responsibility by the president to deal with these people. Don’t dare become a sell-out. Don’t cajole them. And Kimani actually got his wife from here (Nyeri); if you dare go and get cornered, we will take away your wife and children, and you will be left alone,” Gachagua said.
