ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has stated that Raila Odinga will not need an opposition if and when he becomes president.

According to Edwin Sifuna, the former Prime Minister’s government will not need a watchdog since it will run its operations smoothly.

Speaking during an interview with Radio Citizen on Thursday, September 23, Sifuna said there will be no graft and other misconducts under the leadership of Raila Odinga.

“I foresee under the leadership of ODM, there will be no need for the opposition because we will be implementing good policies. Something good does not require correction,” Edwin Sifuna said.

The ODM Secretary General added that Kenyans are fond of using Raila Odinga because they only run to him when there is a problem in governance.

“Every time people say Raila has the solutions in this or that. When a problem arises, people always come to my office, requesting Raila’s help yet when it comes to elections they come up with excuses for not voting for him. They bring up age and tribe as a reason not to vote for Raila,” Sifuna added.

He said that Raila’s government will create be focused on creating good policies as opposed to being against the state as the ODM leader has been known most of his political life.

The ODM leader has been among the longest-serving opposition leaders in Africa.

With four failed attempts at the presidency, the ODM leader had been a government watchdog except for Uhuru and Kibaki’s second terms in office.

After the 2007 General Election, President Mwai Kibaki appointed Raila as the Prime Minister, reducing his impact in the opposition.

In his second term, President Uhuru Kenyatta also absorbed Raila into government through the March 2018 handshake.

Raila’s position in government has been a thorn in the flesh of Deputy President William Ruto, who has accused him of hijacking the Jubilee Party’s plans.
